It is four in the afternoon on a Friday and someone in Bucaramanga closes their laptop. There is no long weekend plan and no hotel booking this time: just a car, the family and the idea of reaching the water before dark. It is a hypothetical scene, but the route it follows is real, and it is worth walking through step by step, because one of the first questions anyone considering a getaway lot asks is simple: how far is it, really?
First, the exit: the old road to Barrancabermeja
The drive from Bucaramanga to Altos de Yariguíes Country Club takes 50 minutes. You leave along the old road to Barrancabermeja, a well known route thousands of people drive every weekend on their way to the reservoir. There are no hidden turns or dirt shortcuts: you stay on the main road until you pass the La Renta rest stop, which works as a clear landmark telling you that you are on track.
Then, the part that confuses people: the stop sign
Past La Renta there is a stop sign. The instruction is simple: right after that stop sign, continue straight ahead. With that in mind, the rest of the drive barely needs a navigation app. The project has two access gates: the main one on the old road to Barrancabermeja and an auxiliary one on the main road. If you arrive with guests, or with friends in two cars, having two controlled entrances makes arriving smoother.
At the end, what is around you
The project sits near a commercial and hotel area, so you are not cut off when you need something. And only 500 meters away are the reservoir's water sports facilities, the starting point for kayaking, paddleboarding, jet skiing and wakeboarding on the same waters Santander locals call "the sea of Santander." Inside the project, the roads are already paved, public lighting runs on solar lamps and the electrical wiring is underground, so the last stretch of the trip is on infrastructure that is already built.
If that Friday scene felt familiar, the next step is to make the drive once with your own eyes. Fifty minutes feel very different behind the wheel than they do on a map.
